Milling (machining) Wikipedia
Milling is the process of machining using rotary cutters to remove material by advancing a cutter into a workpiece. This may be done varying direction on one or several axes, cutter head speed, and pressure. Milling covers a wide variety of different operations and machines, on scales from small individual parts to large, heavy-duty gang milling operations.

Choose the Right Cutting Tool Strategy to Machine
Dec 02, 2010· Aluminum Machining: Face Milling. Today in moldmaking it is very common to see a manufacturer use aluminum material over steel for their plastic injection molds. Aluminum is easier to machine, easier to handle, able to provide quicker turnaround times, and in most cases, higher quality for their injection-molded plastic products.

May 26, 2015· There might be a specialized mill for surfacing like that, but I don't know of any specifically. One thing I did see is that many coatings for mills include Aluminum (such as "TiAlN" coating) and those should be avoided as the aluminum in the coating actually makes it more prone to "stickieness" from the aluminum you're milling.

Aluminum can be hard to drill, despite its easy rep
The aluminum will build up and adhere to the cutting edge and interfere with the formation of new chips from the parent material, which can lead to chip packing, as flutes become clogged. This leads to deposits of aluminum adhering to the drill, promoting even further adhesion and chip packing.

Aluminum Cutting Oil The Home Machinist! chaski
Jan 06, 2003· I regularly use WD40 when machining aluminum. It seems to work well and like you say is readily available out here in the boonies. I buy it by the gallon and use the plastic squirt bottle that often comes with the gallon as an applicator. I think it is more of a coolant/lubricant than a true cutting oil but it does seem to work well for aluminum.

Apr 22, 2018· Hi, folks. I'm trying to mill a keyboard plate for a keyboard I'm making. For each key I need a square hole .551" on each side. When I mill a sample hole in pine, it comes out to precisely .551", but when I've tried it in aluminum, it's only about .54" square (and the key switch won't fit).
